Trauma Focused Therapy

Every day we are exposed to many life events and situations that involve some type of trauma. We do not have to directly experience trauma in order to be affected. We can easily be traumatized from being a bystander, watching the news or hearing about a tragic event. Everyone responds differently to trauma. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to respond to trauma and not all traumas are the same. The same event that could be traumatic for one person, may not necessarily be traumatic for another person.

I am not what happened to me. I am who I want to become.” – Carl Jung

FIND EMOTIONAL BALANCE AND RECLAIM YOUR IDENTITY AFTER TRAUMA

I help individuals learn about how trauma affects every aspect of their life. I assist clients in building skills to cope and manage the symptoms resulting from trauma so that they can regain control over the impulse to “fight” or “flee”, and begin to engage more in life socially and emotionally.

Some people might develop Acute Stress Disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (better known as ‘PTSD’) after being exposed to major trauma. Acute Stress Disorder and PTSD is a type of anxiety disorder that develops as result of being exposed to one or more traumatic experiences that threatens a person’s life either directly or indirectly. Anyone can develop PTSD symptoms, not just war veterans. Not everyone will end up with PTSD. Some individuals may just need some help processing an unresolved traumatic experience.

I take a broad approach to treat trauma, which includes elements of Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), stress management, interpersonal effectiveness skills training, cognitive processing, and anger management.

Healing and recovering from trauma is not smooth and linear, there are progressions and regressions, dramatic leaps and backslides. Take the first step towards recovery by contacting me today. I look forward to the potential of working with you on strengthening your emotional growth and resilience through therapy.
