Is Online Therapy effective?

Is Online Therapy safe?
The same ethical and professional standards of care, privacy rules that are required when providing in-person psychotherapy also applies to online psychotherapy. I have a legal and ethical responsibility to protect all communications that are a part of our telehealth sessions.
I use secure, synchronous (live) two-way encrypted HIPAA compliant audio and video transmission software to deliver online psychotherapy. Our video session will not be recorded or stored. The video transmission software company I utilize has a Business Associate Agreement with me to abide by HIPAA, Privacy Rule, Security Rule and HITECH Act, to keep client Protected Health Information private and confidential.
How do I know if Online Therapy is right for me?
Online therapy may not be the appropriate modality of service for everyone and for all mental health conditions. For example, for individuals experiencing a crisis, severe or complex mental health/substance abuse disorders or expressing active thoughts of suicide or self-harm, in-person treatment may be more appropriate.
